Topography - poem

Our feet walk the path
Kicking up the dust.
The sun has gone
Low mists nudge the land
And the ragged edge of the horizon softens.
Everything looks different in darkness
But your eyes adjust.
In the night, without warning
We arrive at the point
When the roads and the signs disappear.
There is a moment before we decide,
Whether to look back

Or continue straight ahead.
